Underfloor water heating: does it work as it should?

Heat should flow under the floor without you noticing - but what if your toes get cold and your energy consumption increases?

Circulating water underfloor heating is in many ways an ingenious form of heating: it is invisible, even and energy efficient. But only if the system works as designed. Over time, deposits start to build up in the heating pipes, and this quickly starts to show up in both energy consumption and comfort.

Recognise the symptoms - avoid renovation

When the underfloor heating pipes are partially blocked, colder and warmer areas of the apartment start to appear. Floor heating unevenness can creep up unnoticed until eventually one part of the system is completely blocked – leaving the whole room cold. The solution may seem to be to open up the floor and replace the whole system, when the real problem is just blockages in the pipework.

Even in new systems, significant amounts of precipitates can build up and stick to the inner surface of the pipes. The more the pipes settle, the more power the system needs to produce enough heat – and the more energy is used.

Beneflow gets to the root of the problem: the water it treats will start to dissolve precipitates smoothly and effectively as long as there is even a little flow in the system. There are some places where pressure flushing hasn’t helped, but Beneflow has got the system flowing again – without a major overhaul.

Water-circulated underfloor heating brings even heat and comfort to every step.

The heat moves - and the savings follow

In heat exchangers, even small deposits reduce the efficiency of the transfer surfaces. When Beneflow cleans the heat transfer surfaces of the system, heat transfer is more efficient throughout. Floors heat up more evenly and the system’s control curve can be lowered, saving energy – without compromising comfort.

And most importantly, there’s no need to demolish floors or make emergency repairs.

It is best to start clean

While old systems will benefit greatly from Beneflow’s cleaning effect, the most cost-effective solution is to install the equipment immediately on a new site. Keeping the plumbing clean from the start will maximise energy efficiency and system lifetime. At the same time, additional energy consumption and premature replacement of control equipment is avoided
